UK Fuel Petition
UK Fuel Petition
Our Aim
Reduce fuel duty and VAT by 40% for a period of 2 years.
The Government should reduce the cost of fuel through a reduction of 40% in fuel duty and VAT for 2 years. This can effectively offset the rise in fuel prices since 2020.
Our Message
The price of diesel and petrol is at an 8-year-high. While the people are accepting the conversion to electric vehicles, the anticipated 30% + rise in fuel costs along with the price of new electric vehicles is a strain for the UK public. We believe people may understand to a degree the need for tax following the pandemic however prices of £1.50 or more per litre will cancel out any understanding. The Government has the ability to sacrifice some revenue to appease the British public.
At present the UK government raises £28 billion per year from fuel duty alone. For every litre you purchase 57.95 pence goes to the government. Furthermore, on top of this a further 20% more is collected by the government in vat.
In short, a litre of fuel costing £1.49 per litre is broken down as follows:
- 57.95p in duty goes to the government
- 25p in vat goes to the government
- 66p goes to the Oil companies and distributors.
The government takes 83 pence or 56% of every litre you buy in tax.
An Example
If an Audi A3 filled up its 55 litre tank this would be at a cost of £82.00. 56% of this or £45.92 would be taken by the government in duty and VAT.
Fuel duty and vat reliefs have been operated successfully in many other countries and helped their economy. Without the relief people will travel less and spend less leading to a shrinking economy.
Thank you for taking the time to read our petition for the greatest chance of making a difference we need to get as many signatures as possible, if you could share with any of the buttons below it would be greatly appreciated, Thank you.
